Cement major UltraTech Cements has bagged national awards for energy efficiency and quality excellence by the National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCCBM). Two units of UltraTech Cements-- Kotputli Cement Works and Vikram Cement Works – were recognized at the prestigious National Awards for Energy Efficiency, Environmental Excellence and Quality Excellence 2016-17. Kotputli Cement Works was adjudged ‘Best Thermal Energy Performance for 2016-17’ under the category of Energy Efficiency in Cement Industry and Vikram Cement Works secured second position under the ‘Quality Excellence’ category. The award ceremony was held on December 8, 2017, at Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi. Both the units have undertaken several initiatives to set benchmarks in sustainable development of the business. Cement manufacturing is a high energy intensive process. Kotputli Cement Works has taken many initiatives to reduce thermal energy consumption and set a national benchmark in specific fuel consumption for which NCCBM have recognized the unit for the second time. At Vikram Cement Works, the plants are equipped with new-age equipment to deliver superior quality of cement. The production line is backed by a team of professionals and engineers armed with the latest technologies from across the world. The quality management systems and functions at Vikram Cement Works conform to ISO 9001 standard. NCCBM is the premier body under the administrative control of Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, for technology development, transfer, continuing education and industrial services for cement and construction industries. The decision on the awards is taken by a technical committee comprising of eminent experts from Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change; NITI Aayog; Bureau of Energy Efficiency; National Productivity Council; Bureau of Indian Standards and Quality Council of India.
