No Water, no Life. No Blue, no Green. Conserve, Recycle and Reuse are the 3 golden words, in today’s day and age when natural resources are quickly depleting, World Water Day is the perfect opportunity to be reminded about the importance of water. The small steps that one takes in everyday life, at home and work goes a long way in making a measurable difference in the amount of water that can be saved. The two main components of a green certified building would be power and water, and this World Water Day, it can’t be emphasized further, the importance of this ‘blue gold’ which needs preservation if one wants to hand over a healthier world to the future generations.

On World Water Day, Shabbir Kanchwala, Senior Vice President, K Raheja Corp, “Water preservation should be given paramount importance in lieu of global warming and impending threat of resource depletion. K Raheja Corp meticulously curates edifices, both across residential and office offerings to ensure the least use of water and the best possible reuse of it. We undertake rain water harvesting, which reduces load on the drainage system. It also helps mitigate flooding in low lying areas, allowing ground water level to remain constant, thus cutting down on dependency of bore wells. Furthermore, all public spaces use low flow fixtures and the recycled water is reused for flushing and landscaping with a highly efficient sprinkler irrigation system. Additionally, storm water design, both quantity and quality control is done with recharging pits and storage basin. Sewage treatment is also undertaken by removing contaminants from wastewater, with world class technologies like MBBR and SAFF. This treated water is further reused for flushing, gardening and HVAC leading to a reduced demand for municipal potable water. All these initiatives have resulted in the reduction of daily water demand by 20-30%. On World Water Day, we need to take cognizance of our collective responsibility as a community to work towards creating a sustainable future.
