In an attempt to save water bodies, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is installing 50 sewage treatment plants (STPs) near locations where houses for poor are being constructed under the 2BHK housing scheme. Discharge of sewage is one of the reasons for poor water quality in lakes and STP's can solve the menace, say experts. "Many water bodies are polluted due to discharge of sewage water. Only after treating it would aquatic life in lakes and ground water improve," said environmentalist K Purushotham Reddy. 2BHK houses at 109 locations in Greater Hyderabad limits, Rangareddy, Medchal and Sangareddy district are under construction.
