The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved construction of over 1.86 lakh more affordable houses for urban poor under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, PMAY (Urban) with an investment of Rs 11,169 crore with central assistance of Rs 2,797 crore. Haryana has been sanctioned the maximum number of 53,290 houses in this round of approval, followed by Tamil Nadu 40,623 houses, Karnataka 32,656 houses and Gujarat 15,584 houses. Maharashtra got 12,123 houses, Kerala 9,461, Uttarakhand 6,226 and Orissa 5,133 houses. These were approved at the 30th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee meeting held in the Delhi. With the above-proposed houses, total number of houses under PMAY (U) stands to 37.83 lakh after final approval from CSMC. Further after subsuming projects of RAY scheme the total number of houses being funded under PMAY (Urban) would be 39.25 lakh houses.
