Godrej Security solutions on Tuesday organised a conclave to address the concerns and create awareness about the fire safety in the city. The objective of the panel discussions at the conclave was to educate and entrust knowledge about how to design fire proof spaces. Mr. Sanjay Jha, Executive Director of Dale Carnegie Training operations in India raised concerns over the rising fire incidents in the Mumbai city. Jha, who is also national spokesperson of the Indian National Congress party, talked about the Mumbai Kamala Mills fire and blamed the negligence of BMC and state administration during his special address. He proposed the current political system to enact stringent security laws and standards. The dignitaries in the first panel discussion included Major General Soli Pavri, Former Security Advisor, RBI, Mr. Burzin Sarbhanwala, Senior Risk Management Expert, ICICI General Insurance, Mr. Vinayak Sane, Senior Consultant on Fire Security, Capt Kanan, Chief security officer, Central Bank, Mr. S.B. Kharbade, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Mumbai Fire Brigade. The second discussion included Capt Rakesh Patney, DGM (O) – Security, Bank of India, Architect Hafeez Contractor, Anubhav Gupta, Executive VP - Business Head Vikhroli, Godrej Properties and Mr. Sandeep Malvi, Deputy Commissioner, Thane, Senior Executive from BIS. The panellists debated on various confusing laws and regulations prevailing in different cities. Commenting on the objective behind initiating fire security conclave, Mr. Mehernosh Pithawalla, Vice President and Global Head-Marketing, Sales and Innovation, Godrej Security Solutions highlighted, “The fire-proofing security market in India has been predominantly a ‘need based’ market and not proactive measure based. Safety and security anxieties are not just restricted to personal safety, but encompasses the safety of our loved ones. Even then, the market has more of a reactive attitude towards the adoption of security measures. Taking cognizance of this, we felt that there is a dire need to initiate a fire safety discussion and create awareness about the technological advancements taking place in the security solutions space to fire-proof spaces. Society is getting more tech-rich and empowered, and yet we remain as vulnerable to fire breakouts as before. We need to make a fundamental change in our behaviour and be more proactive to ensure fire safety.” The conclave concluded with the dignitaries taking a pledge of fire safety – of being cognizant of fire safety measures and being proactive in ensuring fire safety.
