Interview of Architect Alex Finnell, Austin
Why do you love modern architecture? A: I really like the use of materials and the space that it creates and because of that I’m able to accomplish and try to share things that are not common or wouldn’t necessary be found with common architecture. Modern to me is more of a blank slate. When I was younger I was able to travel quite a bit with my family so I got to see a lot of “old” places. It was those places in terms of the architecture that helped form my value in architecture as a whole. What are some of the most requested features in homes these days? A: Working spaces, storage spaces, long term planning, trying to maintain single floor access (aging issues) – there’s more interest to stay in one place, but something that will grow with them, and addresses their needs specifically. Where did you do the majority of your architecture/design study? A: University of Texas – I chose to go into architecture because I had always really liked building, space, the arts and the craftsmanship side of it all. It gave me the opportunity to create spaces that would accomplish different things. Source: GoodLifeTeam
