In order to meet the increasing housing demand, group housing societies are coming up all across India. Builders/Developers of group housing societies are coming up all across India. Builders/Developers of group housing societies are not hesitating to go the extra mile to provide more facilities to the residents. One of the mandatory facilities these days is to provide proper ventilation and effective Air-conditioning & Heating. Some builders lack knowledge in the AC field and find it difficult to connect with the latest technological developments. They should now, reach out to the Indian Society of Heating Refrigerating & Air Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE) which is a leading professional society with information & expertise in the field of Air-conditioning that can help and guide the builders. New technologies are available for Air-conditioning of group housing societies and these are gaining acceptance. “District Cooling” is one such system where chilled water is distributed from a central plant to several buildings through an underground piping network, and this chilled water is used for Space Cooling. G.I.F.T city in Gujarat has already pioneered the use of District Cooling in India. The technology is more economical, environmentally friendly, has lower maintenance cost and reduced noise generation. Another air cooling concept gaining acceptance is Geothermal Cooling. It takes advantage of the uniformly prevailing low temperature at certain depths in the ground depending on location, for space cooling. Construction Industry should work closely with the Air-conditioning Industry because nearly 40% of the Energy consumption is used in the Buildings Sector, of which the major share is accounted for by Air-conditioning.
