Glass Ceiling Is In The Mind
Kaajal Shah -Head Of Marketing And Pre-Sales, Vtp Group
RISING ABOVE SELF-DOUBT AND KEEPING ALL THE NAYSAYERS AT AN ARM’S LENGTH IS IMPORTANT. REMEMBER, THE COMPETITION IS NOT BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN, BUT EACH ONE BETTERING ONESELF EVERY TIME.
During my 22 years of work experience, I have also worked in the IT sector specializing in digital design and communication. So when I had the opportunity to join the real estate industry, I took it up seeing how I would be able to utilize my marketing and communication knowledge and experience in the real world.
Applying user research and principles of the brand to influence the audiences to make a buying choice was a challenge, I took up when I moved from behind the digital façade to the real world. From designing virtual interactions and digital applications, I wanted to push myself further to impact real face-to-face human interactions. And the real estate industry presented me with that opportunity.
The journey so far has been nothing short of exhilarating. Switching between diverse industries and yet being able to use my expertise to effectively influence my users/customers has been very gratifying. There is always a learning curve when you change industries or even move to new organizations.
I have been fortunate to work with some of the biggest names in the real estate industry and work closely with the stalwarts. Apart from winning accolades internationally for my work on digital applications, launching high profile townships and special audience product lines have been highlights of my career. I have grown tremendously as a leader, team player, a marketer and above all as a human.
I think women blend work and family life better, are more aware of their responsibilities and are better planned. Women leaders bring more empathy to their teams therefore, the micro-culture of women-led teams is more positive and engaged. Women also tend to draw strength from their ability to engage socially with friends outside of the workplace, thus leading to a lower burn-out rate.
A woman’s perspective is in-depth and women in real estate have a unique ability to “see” both sides of the product, as a developer and as a homemaker. I believe women have better clarity and are more articulate and succinct in their communication. They are also able to deal with conflict more empathetically.
