Design Trends for 2019
Architecture, interiors, and home décor design decisions have long been dominated by trends in the industry. While many of the trends become a part of the ‘ever-trending’ bandwagon, some bid adieu for a while, only to return after a reasonable time gap. With 2019 around the corner, here are some design trends that are already being embraced, and are set to captivate your abode the coming year. Sustainable Living Sustainable living is becoming a part and parcel of a good lifestyle, and is set to become an overarching theme in the following year. People are beginning to integrate and enjoy a number of sustainable systems in their daily life with great fervour, compared to a few years ago. It is expectedto become more of a stylish lifestyle of the future globally, with several brands opting for alternate resources to create and develop their basic home, and design related products and systems that will last longer and cater to quality as well as aesthetics. An eco-conscious approach towards designing and living is nowadays garnering more popularity than the otherwise style-focused finish. Additionally, things like natural ventilation and the use of natural lighting have become essential components of good designs, as these integrate to add to the aesthetic and functional value of projects, much beyond what artificial systems can. Organic + Pure Forms There is a lot to learn from the timelessness of nature. It is not precisely about straight or curved lines but more about how the forms are used to address very functional requirements. It is that symphony between form and function that creates great architecture. Over the years, an increased focus on organic forms has been seen, but now these forms are starting to become integrated with functional and structural requirements. People have started to understand the added value in such architecture and design. Simplifying Technology In an overly complicated world no one likes to add another complication to their lives. With an upswing in the advancement of technology in this day and age, there is also an increased focus on making it simple for users. Too many buttons or complex interfaces only adds to the confusion and clutters the mind. It is important to leave the mind free for more innovative and clear thinking. In the coming years, advanced technology is expected to seamlessly integrate withpeople’s lifestyles to enhance the experience of living. Therefore, we are witnessing an increased focus on making technology intuitive for its effective use, and to simplify life. Nordic Living A very recent home and design trend that has gained immense popularity in a short span of time is the Nordic way of living, i.e. Scandinavian living. It is focused on the principles of simplicity, minimalism and functionality. Dynamic hues, sleek furnishings and accessories, along with minimal styling, a.k.a. Scandi-cool aesthetics, can be foreseen as elegant and captivating. As a result, it is expected to become a trend that is rapidly adopted and executed in the coming year, with a focus on clean living. Personal Wellbeing Perhaps the simplest trend, which will and should dominate the year 2019, is personal wellbeing. It is simply about allowing yourself space for things that make you feel comfortable and happy. This is what enhances quality of life. With millennial there will be a rise in the concept of “my space”. More and more spaces will be devoted to individual wellbeing. This is also what allows each space to reflect its own personality versus a generic style. Authored by Malcolm Daruwalla, Principal Architect, Seedle by DC Group
