Registration of illegal properties cannot be prevented until an amendment is made to the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act (MRTP) 1966, stated senior officials from the revenue department even as the Urban Development Department issued a directive to stop registering such projects.
The registration department is awaiting guidelines from the state law and judiciary department on the same as unless an amendment to introduce provisions for “prohibiting non-registration of illegal constructions” is introduced, it cannot restrict registration, said officials.
“Under the registration act we cannot prevent anyone from registering a property. Unless there is a specific clause to prohibit registration, we cannot restrict registration,” said officials from the registration department.
