The Gujarat high court paved the way for redevelopment of slum quarters in Khokhra by rejecting a petition filed by 42 residents of the buildings who were opposed to the redevelopment plan.
The residents had approached the high court against the developer undertaking demolition of 448 housing units in slum quarters and they claimed that their houses were in perfect shape and they did not want any redevelopment, and they had sought permission to continue to live in the same houses and not to demolish them.
The court took into consideration that majority of residents have consented to the redevelopment plan. They have vacated their houses and are living in rented premises. They have accepted cheques from the developer toward rentals
