The civic body has finally come up with an accommodation option for over 165 families from Ghorpadi, who were displaced following an anti-encroachment drive on the railway land.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to shift them to a Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) programme in Hadapsar after their issue was raised at a general body meeting last week, officials said.
The elected members in the house said the people were suffering because of cold and other issues. The anti-encroachment drive was held in the winter and many residents had no option but to set up makeshift places to stay along the road itself.
The PMC members said the residents had encroached upon the railway land at Darode Mala, SantGadgeMaharajnagar and Shantinagar in Ghorpadi and Koregaon Park. These houses were demolished during the anti-encroachment drive in November and December 2018. Since then, they were living on the road for around two months. The issue had taken a serious turn after a senior citizen died because of cold.
