The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to escalate action against illegal constructions across the city. Crucially, the civic body is examining the option of invoking Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against erring builders.
Developers, who continue to work on illegal constructions despite being punished for it, will be subjected to the stringent provisions. The PMC is considering discussions with the police commissionerate to understand if illegal constructions can be treated as organized crime.
While PMC has been taking actions against illegal constructions, it has found that many operators have developed syndicates and purposely build illegal constructions, a civic official said.
