The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will introduce an e-auction system to curb the misuse of its rented out properties and shops.
Though these properties are one of the key income sources for the civic body, it has failed to tap their full potential.
Factors such as delay in recovering rents from the tenants, illegal occupancy of properties and political interference while allotting these buildings have led to their mismanagement. Currently, these properties are rented out through a tendering process.
The municipal properties include land, buildings, properties on lease, acquired land and buildings, machinery, electric and office equipment, furniture, vehicles, roads and street-poles. The civic body has around 17,000 properties.
