Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) awaits special permission on property tax from state

Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has approached the state urban development department for special permission to impose and collect property tax from the residents in Cidco nodes, which now comes under PCMC. The permission would strengthen the finances of the civic body. If the permission gets granted, Cidco nodes and MIDC areas will come under the tax net soon. PCMC have also requested the urban development for the permission. An official stated that the assurance has been given to PCMC in this regard. Once PCMC gets the permission, PCMC would do tax assessment and also would save money which usually takes around Rs 6 crore. The same would bring tax into PCMC’s kitty faster and reduce time and tax losses during this period greatly. Currently, Cidco collects service tax in its area and the Tehsildar Office has been demanding non agriculture tax.
