Over 70 slums to be developed in PimpriChinchwad under smart city project

There are 16 slums each on lands belonging to the Maharasthra Industrial Development Corporation and government, 25 slums are on government land, 6 slums are on land belonging to the municipal corporation, 8 slums are on land owned by PimpriChinchwad New Township Development Authority.
According to the 2011 census, the population in slums is around 1.47 lakh. There are 34 undeclared slums, and 37 declared slums.
The PCMC had decided to construct 8,288 slum tenements, instead of 18,368, under the Jawaharal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission. The JNNURM work in various tenements began in 2005 at an estimated cost of Rs413 crore.
