New development plan for Mumbai likely to get state govt's nod by next week

The state government is likely to approve the city's new development control plan (2012-2034) by next week. The government will also publish a transition policy which will mention the procedure in case builders want to amend their plans for ongoing projects in accordance with the new plan. Urban development department's principal secretary Nitin Kareer along with his team had a meeting with civic chief Ajoy Mehta at the BMC headquarters where they finalized DCPR provisions. The state government needs to give its nod to release DCPR for implementation. Mehta said, "New DCPR will be a game-changer, as it will have provision to create affordable housing and boost slum redevelopment after simplifying procedures. It will also reduce the municipal commissioner's discretionary power. We have also finalized the transition policy details for smooth transition." BMC prepares the city's 20-years development plan (DP) which mentions existing land use, kinds of reservation and their zoning. They also release DCPR with it, which decides how to implement the DP, how much construction can be allowed, what kind of land along with details.
