MHADA appointed to approve building plans on it’s plots Maharashtra state government is keen to provide affordable housing especially under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY) to all it’s residents. For the same, the state has appointed Mhada as a special planning authority. This decision also brings to the notice that no separate permission from local authorities like the BMC will be required for the development of 114 MHADA layouts in the city and suburbs. This would be applied to the current layouts and also the upcoming future layouts. This would give the power to MHADA to approve building plans on its layouts. Earlier the plans of developers would get approved first by MHADA and then by the civic body which normally takes a long period of time. The new decision would speed up the creation of affordable housing. The state’s notification says that MHADA will function as special planning authority for projects under the PMAY and projects being implemented by MHADA or where the body is a joint venture.
