The property tax wing of the Municipal Corporation (MC) has initiated the process of sealing the defaulters’ commercial and residential establishments to force the “errants” into paying the tax. Zonal-level MC teams visited their respective areas and sealed four shops.
The MC team sealed two shops at Nehru Shopping Complex on Lawrence Road. A store of Easy Day and a restaurant were sealed at the GT Road.
The team members faced arguments at Lawrence Road where shopkeepers sought more time. The area councillor intervened and the traders promised to pay the tax. Civic body officials also visited the Badminton Hall on Taylor Road where tax worth Rs 4.6 lakh is pending. The office-bearers assured to pay the amount.
Pardeep Rajput, superintendent, property tax, MC, said, “We have initiated the process of sealing the properties of tax defaulters. No one will be exempted.”
Mayor Karmajit Singh Rintu has been making efforts to boost the recovery of taxes for the smooth functioning of the MC. The officials are hopeful that they will meet the recovery targets.”
