The illegal colonies mushrooming after March 19 have come under the radar of Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (Glada) as they have razed 16 such illegal colonies in the last two days. The colonies were at the initial stage of construction so the Glada teams razed the under construction roads, street lights and sewerage system in the colonies.
As per the new regularisation policy, the colonies developed before March 19 are to be considered under regularization policy while others will have to be demolished. Earlier in the month of May, the officials got 40 FIRs registered against the developers of illegal colonies. However, in the wake of the new policy, the developers are not coming forward. Hence, officials have now started taking action against the new illegal colonies because in the new policy it is mandatory for the officials to keep vigil on illegal constrictions cropping up or else be penalized.
Despite announcement of the new regularization policy by state government on April 20, the development of unauthorized colonies was going on at unabated and to apply brakes on the illegal construction work action was taken against 16 colonies. Colonies in Kakka, Dhola, Gaunsgarh, Sahnewal, Bullara, Kohara, Laddian kalian, Jassian, MazFagguwal and Cholle had illegal colonies being constructed. In these colonies, roads, electricity pools and sewerage were demolished. It was added that more such demolition drives will be carried out in the coming days.
