Till the announcement of new policy for the regularization of unauthorized colonies, the officials of Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (Glada) are going to follow strict measures to curb any activity in these colonies.
After imposing a ban on registries, new power and telecom connections, officials have decided to install display boards in these colonies to issue a strict warning to the general public for not investing money in these colonies.
As per officials, there are over 1,400 illegal colonies in which these boards will be displayed.
Usually it has been seen that public is hardly aware of the unauthorized colonies. Moreover, the developers fool the public in order to sell their properties in the colonies. The officials claimed that most of the time, the people are being told that colony has not been approved by the Glada. The regulatory branch of GLADA has asked its civil branch to get these boards installed as soon as possible.
On these boards, it will be written that colony is completely illegal and Glada will not be doing any investment in this colony, so people will not get any basic amenity. In case anybody will purchase the plot in the colony, then it will be his responsibility.
To ensure that these boards are not removed, the officials have decided to fix the responsibility of the developers. And in case, boards are found missing, the department will get FIR registered against the developers.
Harpreet Singh Sekhon, estate officer (regulatory), Glada, said the step has been taken for saving hard earned money of common public who fall in the trapped of developers easily. He said these display boards will be installed as in many cases people complain that they were not aware whether the colony was legal or illegal. “If any board goes missing then colonizer or developer will be held responsible and we will get FIR registered against him,” he said.
Notably, the department has already written to the deputy commissioner as well as the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) for curbing the registries and new electricity connections in these illegal colonies. Even the telecom connections are also banned in these colonies.
The GLADA had recently started exercise of patrolling in the illegal colonies with the help of eight guards who were told to visit the main roads of the city to keep a check on mushrooming of the illegal colonies. The officials claimed that it has proved helpful in collecting the knowledge of upcoming illegal colonies so they have demanded 20 more men for patrolling so that they could cover all the areas under GLADA.
