Civic authorities are set to shift the slum dwellers from Vishwakarma Colony to dwelling units in Mundian Kalan and vacate the prime land in sector 38 and 39 on Chandigarh Road. Around 750 families will be shifted from this colony to flats. Shifting of the dwellers in Rajiv Gandhi colony will also be taken up after this.
The land in Vishwakarma Colony belongs to Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (Glada) and after vacating the chunk, MC will hand it over to the former.
The sources said at first, 100 families will be shifted to flats in Mundian Kalan. Glada has paid Rs 13.31 crore to the MC for vacating 7.5 acres of land so that the civic officials can complete the pending work in the flats where the colony dwellers will be shifted.
A committee has also been formed for completion of this task. This comprises additional commissioner J K Jain, joint commissioner Poonampreet Kaur, executive engineer (XEN) H S Bhullar, assistant town planner of Zone B Kuljit Mangat and in-charge of BSUP flats Sangeeta.
