Kolkata civic body to make UAA system simpler

The response to the Unit Area Assessment (UAA) system has been lukewarm but the KMC won’t discard it. Instead, the civic body will modify the new tax system, it was announced on the concluding day of the KMC budget session. Sources in the KMC assessment department said the mayor had instructed to make certain modifications keeping in mind the middle- and lower middle-class taxpayers. Apart from changing some parameters that will influence zoning of properties and eventually reduce tax rate, the KMC assessment department has been asked to simplify the self-assessment form that one has to fill in to declare his/ her property.
