Kolhapur civic body seals 11 properties over property tax default

The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) sealed eight properties in the last two days for failure of the owners to pay property tax. Most of the sealed properties were commercials ones. The civic body has initiated action against property tax defaulters, whose arrears amount to Rs 1 lakh and above. According to the property tax department, there are 143 property tax defaulters with arrears of over one lakh rupees. The hearings of such cases are underway. The KMC has floated a scheme to waive 50% of the fine imposed against the non-payment of the tax over property owners. However, the scheme has received a cold response.
