Owners of new properties can now apply online to get registered for property tax while those seeking no-property tax dues certificate will get the same through the digital mode within seven days.
“The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has launched the online facility for these services to bring in transparency and avoid delays,” municipal commissioner AbhijeetChaudhari told reporters on Wednesday.
The civic chief said that online facility will be extended for other services, like water or drainage connections, as well in the coming days. “There were several complaints from property owners that they do not get registered for tax on time. We have been so far accepting applications manually in the citizen facilitation centres (CFC’s),” he said.
“Through the online mode, we will be able to track the status of the application. It is mandatory to get the new property registered in 25 days. After the application, our official will get the property tax assessed. In case of online no-dues certificate, the owners will not have to visit the KMC office. Once applied, the certificate will be issued within seven days and the owners will be informed through SMS alerts,” said Chaudhari.
The KMC receives over 4,500 applications every year to get properties registered for tax and many do not apply owing to lack of friendly system. For the no-dues certificate, over 10,000 applications are made every year.
The property owner has to sign up and get the user ID to file the application. The owner or individual can make several applications for multiple properties.
Along with new properties, the owners can file application for modified properties for fresh tax assessment.
A survey is already under way to find out new properties and carry out tax assessment. Chaudhari said that in order to avoid duplication of application, the details obtained through the ongoing manual survey would be immediately put up in the system.
