Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) is all set to auction over 150 properties of tax defaulters from August 2.
“We have decided to auction the property since their owners have not paid tax despite repeated warnings. We have started inviting applications for it on zone level and the auction will begin from August 2,” IMC deputy commissioner Lata Agrawal said.
There is no fixed amount of dues or criteria for selection of the property for auction. But the property of owners, who remain unresponsive despite repeated notices, can be chosen by civic body for auction.
The civic body had earlier identified around 200 such properties of tax defaulters across the city. Of them, 50 cleared their dues when civic body announced to start their auction. Now, the civic body has 150 immovable properties, which they are going to list for auction one by one. The civic body is unable to find out permanent address of a few defaulters.
The valuation of the immovable property would be done as per the prescribed guidelines and they will be sold through an offline auction process.
Agrawal said IMC has the right to sell immovable property sealed by it under section 175 of Madhya Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 195. IMC Commissioner has to direct for auction of each of these immovable property of defaulters.
