The 24 illegal flats in two wings of the Sphurti Angan apartment complex at Narhe in Ambegaon are standing tall, two years after the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority ordered their demolition. Repeated follow-ups from the residents of the legal flats in Sphurti Angan have failed to yield any results.
The PMRDA officials in their latest order on December 6 iterated that they had reviewed the second wing of the project and it cannot be regularised. Still, the authority has not initiated any action against the illegal flats. There are two wings of Sphurti Angan. The A-wing has 28 legal and 12 illegal flats. The B-wing, with 12 illegal flats, was built on the amenity space of the society without any permissions and so they could not be regularised.
The residents staying in the 28 legal flats stated that they had the order of demolition of the illegal structures from the gram panchayat, the Haveli tehsildar, the PMRDA and the final notice issued to vacate the illegal flats in 2017. But the authorities had not initiated any action yet, they claimed. The residents even approached the Prime Minister’s Office stating that the authorities were not initiating action against the illegal structures.
When contacted, the PMRDA officials claimed that people were staying in the illegal flats of the society building and they would have to look into all the issues before pulling them down.
