Thousands of residents of housing societies in Wagholi and adjacent areas have released a manifesto throwing light on their demands ahead of the local gram panchayat elections scheduled in the last week of December.
The residents have demanded better roads and resolution of long-pending issues such as inadequate water supply, incomplete water pipeline project and effective solid waste management system.
The manifesto has been released under the banner of Wagholi Housing Societies Association (WHSA). The organization has claimed that it is ready to field its candidates if political nominees contesting elections fail to address the issues put forth by residents.
Located in the fringe areas of the city on the Pune-Ahmednagar Road, Wagholi has witnessed significant development in industry and real estate. Residents, however, complain of inadequate public infrastructure and poor facilities. They argue that the local administration has not taken necessary steps to resolve the problems. Therefore, the election for gram panchayat is being seen as an opportune moment to push their demands to ensure better infrastructure and governance, residents claim.
