Presented by Legrand and organized by Realty+ Masterclass, the Discussion on the topic of “Integration of Technology & Design for Smart Spaces’ on October 23, 2021 featured Italian architect Giovanni Podestà, Director, Studio Fuksas, Indian architect Amit Khanna, Design Principal, AKDA and Milka Eskola, Director Design, Legrand Group.
The session commenced with the presentation by Architect Podestà sharing projects from Studio Fuksas that exemplified the synergies of a design idea with tech and advanced systems turning them into reality.
The presentation by Ms Eskola briefed on the design philosophy of Legrand citing their user friendly product designs and applications relevant for regions across the globe. Later in the day Emanuela Figliozzi, Brand Marketing Manager, Legrand Group shared an explanatory presentation on “Living Now” that has just been launched in India and is India's first intrinsically connected wiring devices range.
The panel discussion was joined by Indian architect and urbanist Amit Khanna, Design Principal, AKDA along with Architect Podestà and Milka Eskola
The experts were of the view that technology should fulfill the needs of the people rather than creating new ones. “We are going to see increasing use of algorithms and software in design as well as AI but humanizing of technology is an important aspect to consider,” said Architect Podestà. Sharing similar sentiments architect Amit Khanna expressed, “Indeed the materials and technologies available influences the design and architecture of that specific period of time. In current scenario user data will be used more and more for efficient use of spaces and resources.” Adding to the architects views, Milka Eskola shared that lifestyle is one of the important consideration while designing a product. “The ease of use, aesthetics and functionality, all have to be balanced while developing an innovative product.”
The speakers concurred that the pandemic has led to architecture becoming flexible rather than resilient so as to be adaptive to multifunction during its lifetime.
