The department of town and country planning (DTCP) is planning to launch a crackdown on illegal houses belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS) in the city’s licensed colonies next week.
Officials said the department had already identified 18 houses built in violation of building norms, which would be sealed during the proposed drive. A senior official from DTCP said, “A sealing drive against such properties will be conducted in the next few days. The DTP enforcement has even asked for a police team to maintain law and order during the sealing drive”.
The EWS category plot owners were allotted 60 yards land each and as per the Haryana Building Code, construction is allowed up to fourth floor (up to 15 metres).
However, many plot owners constructed up to 7-8 floors and also encroached upon open areas in the front and behind of their plots.
