“As per MSW rules, bulk generators are expected to deposit debris at C&D waste sites, while some amount can be dumped at pre-designated spots or at maintenance units of corporations,” Yogender Singh Maan, spokesperson of north corporation, said.
South corporation commissioner Puneet Goel held a review meeting on Thursday during which orders to seize trucks illegally dumping debris and to file FIR/criminal cases against people found burning industrial waste were issued.
As per the municipal solid waste management bylaws and provisions of NGT Act, civic bodies can issue fines of up to Rs 5,000 for such violations. Managing construction debris has been a massive problem in Delhi, which generates 5,000 tonnes of such waste daily.
North corporation’s recycling plant in Burari has a capacity of 2,000MT per day and converts waste into ready-mix concrete, cement bricks, and pavement blocks. Another plant is operational in east Delhi’s Shastri Park.
Corporations have made arrangements for receiving C&D waste at processing plants at Jahangirpuri and landfills at Bhalswa and Okhla through bulk generators/truck operators, official said.
