As if the corona pandemic was not enough for putting the citizens of Odisha and West Bengal at misery, the states are now bracing for cyclone Amphan which has been downgraded from super cyclone to an extreme cyclonic storm. NDRF teams have been deployed in 7 districts of West Bengal and 6 districts of Odisha.
Weather forecaster IMD has said that cyclone Amphan is now an extreme cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal and is likely to make landfall somewhere between Digha in West Bengal and Hatiya Islands in Bangladesh today afternoon or night.
Around 4 lakh people have been evacuated from seven coastal districts of West Bengal in view of super cyclonic Storm Amphan which is likely to lash this afternoon or evening.
As per the meteorological department, a slight delay in onset of monsoon in Kerala can be expected as a result of Amphan and will arrive on Kerala's coast on June 5. Stay tuned for more update.
