The Chennai Corporation will start issuing ‘Notice 1’ informing residents about the revised property tax from Tuesday.
The civic body has roped in self-help groups (SHGs) to distribute the notice to 12 lakh residents at their doorsteps in 46,600 streets.
After the receipt of ‘Notice 1,’ residents of all the 46,600 streets will be permitted to file objections with the Regional Deputy Commissioners of the three regions of the Corporation within 15 days of receipt.
Officials said the process of calculating the revised property tax was completely automated. “Rates have been arrived at for more than 46,600 streets in all the 15 zones of the city,” said an official.
Residents have filed property tax returns online and have also have submitted forms mentioning the built-up area and usage of the buildings.
As the deadline for filing property tax returns is over, the civic body officials will identify the assessees who have failed to file returns.
