The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation on Monday decided to cancel the building permissions of 395 structures for allegedly failing to follow due process to install mobile towers atop.
Mayor NanduGhodele said that all these mobile towers were illegally installed. “There are 481 mobile towers in the civic body limit. Of these, 395 were installed without due permission of the civic body,” he said during a meeting of officials to review the tax recovery drive and waste management in the city.
“The property owners had to acquire stability certificate, follow height norms at different places and follow certain other norms. However, majority of the owners didn’t approach us for such a process. We have decided to cancel building permission granted to them. Further action would be initiated according to law,” Ghodele said.
Asked about the frequent occurrence of garbage being set afire in different parts of the city, the mayor said that the ward officers have been asked to keep an eye such incidents. He added that they had launched an inquiry into the incident of burning of waste near a city mall late on Sunday night.
He admitted that about 1,500 tonne of dry waste was laying in the city and nobody was ready to take it for disposal. “We are in the process of a dialogue with a cement factory and a scrap dealer from Malegaon to dispose the garbage. For now, we have decided to buy 60,000 gunny bags to store the dry waste. It can be transported easily if there is an agreement with any agency,” the mayor added.
