With the country's real estate industry going through arguably one of the worst phases in recent times, Assam Real Estate & Infrastructure Developers' Association (AREIDA) on Saturday hit out at the state government for not providing conducive working conditions for the industry to thrive.
They alleged that the situation is so serious that let alone outside investments coming in, local investors are moving out of Assam to other states that provide better infrastructure for the sector.
Pointing out gross violation of provisions of the Assam ease of doing business Act, the real estate body's president, P K Sharma, said, "According to a notification issued by the state government in 2017, it would take 15 days to approve single-window online applications and 30 days to get a nod for occupancy approval. However, none of these provisions have been implemented till date."
Criticising the state government for not modifying the building by-laws unlike other states, AREIDA highlighted that Assam is the only state in India that still uses the outdated multiple window building by-laws.
