Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) administration is required to recover Rs 5 crore over next two days to achieve targeted house tax collection for 2018-19 financial year.
With the deadline ending on March 31, civic body’s tax department officials have issued notices to defaulters to clear their dues of past several years. The civic body’s tax collection section will be open on Sunday while Saturday is a working day, officials said.
According to civic body officials, from Monday onwards, legal proceedings will be initiated against major defaulters, including hotels, nursing homes, marriage houses and guest houses.
Last year, the state government had directed municipal corporations to become self-reliant by increasing overall revenue generation and spending funds accordingly. Following this, the municipal board of councillors had set Rs 50 crore as the targeted revenue to be collected as house tax.
