ACCE’s Gourav Award goes to Samir Surlaker

The Association of Consulting Civil Engineers, India [ACCE (I)] organized an outstanding Workshop on Industrial, Commercial & Special Flooring as a part of their 33^rd Foundation Day Celebrations & Awards Function 2018 on 1^st and 2^nd June 2018 at Madurai. As a practice for the past decades, ACCE (I) honoured individuals and Organizations, for achieving excellence in various domains of Civil Engineering by presenting the Annual ACCE (I) Awards. The Foundation Day Celebrations commenced with Respected Chief Guest, Padma Shri, Mr. N. Vedachalam, [Distinguished Scientist Emeritus of ISRO], presiding over the function. During this significant gathering of professionals, Mr. Samir Surlaker was conferred the “ACCE (I) Gourav Award – 2018”, in recognition of the outstanding body of work produced, contributions made by him to Civil Engineering, and furthering the profession over a lifetime of achievement. The Gourav Award is the Highest Honour bestowed by ACCE (I) on eminent engineers who have strengthened the profession and contributed to society in general. Mr.Surlaker received this prestigious award alongside Industry Stalwarts such as Prof. Mahesh Tandon, Er. A. N. Prakash, Er. B. Suryavanshi and Er. S. P. Srinivasan. Mr.Surlaker, a Civil and Structural Engineer, has over four decades of International experience in Concrete Technology and Construction Chemicals, in Europe, Middle East, Far East and India. Over the years, he strove to increase awareness about better practices for construction durability, across the globe. Mr.Surlaker’s contributions to emerging technologies and techniques include special chemical resistant coatings for water and wastewater industry, anti-carbonation coatings, thermal barrier coatings, injection technologies and FRCM systems for rehabilitation of structures especially bridges, dams and heritage structures. Mr.Surlaker contributed actively to the Profession as Past Vice President of Indian Concrete Institute, Past Director of India Chapter of American Concrete Institute, Past Governing Council Member of ACCE (I) and as the Past President of Construction Chemicals Manufacturers Association (CCMA). He is co-author of Handbook of Advanced Concrete Technology. His contributions were recognized by the Industry who honoured him with “Outstanding Contribution to Concrete Technology Award, 2005” and most recently “Honorary Life Membership” of CCMA.
