Continuing its drive against encroachment, Huda on Tuesday demolished around 25 shops in Sikanderpur Ghosi area near Guru Dronacharya Metro Station to clear one acre of the prime land.
The encroachments had emerged as a major cause of congestion as squatters had constructed shops over the green area along MG Road.
“Huda had acquired around 10 acres of land in this area in 2009. Large part of the land was utilised for the construction of the road, while some portion was left out as green areas,” said estate officer-II Vivek Kalia adding that over the years, people encroached over the land.
Part of the encroached land also comes under the natural drain of Sikanderpur Ghoshi.
Meanwhile, some of the residents of Sikanderpur opposed the demolition drive and claimed ownership over the land. Surender Yadav, a resident of Sikanderpur, said some of the land was released by urban development authority from acquisition and at present was under private ownership. “We requested the authority to demarcate the land and identify the land owned by private individuals and Huda,” Yadav said.
“We will demarcate the land to identify Huda’s portion,” said Kalia adding that they will carry out demolition drive after a week in the same area to clear the remaining land.
In last one week, Huda has carried demolition drives on Golf Course road and Nathupur.
