20% of the Smart City projects to be completed by 2018: Economic Survey

The Economic Survey – II has projected that only 20 per cent of the smart city projects are likely to be completed by the end of the year 2018. The survey said, “In the best-case scenario, an additional 920 projects for which detailed project reports (DPRs) have already been prepared worth Rs 24,526 crore are estimated to be completed by the end of 2018 provided all timelines are adhered to.” The 60 cities, which had been announced before June, have proposed Rs. 1.33 crore investments under smart city plans. The survey said 57 projects worth Rs. 941 crore have been completed as of April and an estimated additional 462 projects worth Rs 15,307 crore were likely to be completed through 2018 provided all the projects that have commenced implementation and those that have been tendered stuck to their timelines.
