As a teacher, as a policy maker, as a writer and as a crusader for real estate and urban development reforms, I have always kept lofty ideals of our great nationalists top on my mind and was inspired by their selfless efforts. All these have shaped my thinking and my work.
A leader has to lead from the front and for that, the leader has to put in a lot of hard work. He has to know more than all the others put together and has to always stay ahead. This requires a lot of effort. People have given me a lot of love, respect and support. I hope this will continue so that we can all continue in our efforts to make India a better place to live in.
Also, details are very important and a leader has to always ensure that the loose ends are tied up. Working with people, understanding them and working along with them is necessary. In a large organisation, you cannot go alone and have to always depend on many people. Understanding their pulse, their aspirations and their capabilities is very important so that we can bring out the best in them.
For me, every day over the last 30 years has been filled with a passion to give my best to all the positions that I have held. Habits of hard work, punctuality and dedication have always stood me in good stead.
It is also very important that leaders are people to whom many look up to. Therefore, a leader has to be an example for others to emulate. Good conduct, ethical practices and upholding the dignity of the office one is holding has also been very important for me.
In public life, one is subject to criticism. It is very important that one takes this very seriously and analyse as to why people are saying what they are saying. Actually, if one takes serious note of one's critics, one can improve a lot and change oneself for the better. Humility is the hallmark of success. There is no room for pretensions and sincerity is important.
Lastly, I believe that whatever work one does, there has to be an element of patriotism. We all need to work for our nation, however small be our contribution, for it is several drops which make an ocean!
Hard work, details and working with people have been the guiding factors for me to come up to this level.
