Parveen Jain, Chairman, NAREDCO expresses his thoughts on construction ban issues in Delhi imposed by SC.
Supreme Court has reimposed the ban on construction activities in Delhi but non-polluting activities like plumbing and electrical work, interior decoration and carpentry work are allowed to be continued. Also, funds collected by states as labor cess for the welfare of construction workers are to be used and pay wages to provide subsistence to them during this prohibition of the construction period.
The situation has been listed for further consideration and in the meantime, the government has to take appropriate steps to deal with the situation. These steps like allowing above mentioned non-polluting activities will ensure that the total construction work does not come to a standstill and activities can be planned accordingly during this period. The situation shall be reviewed and hopefully, the situation shall come back to normalcy as soon as possible.
