Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said that most historic buildings at the old State Fairgrounds off 8 Mile will likely be razed to make way for the planned $400 million Amazon distribution center. "We’ve all got emotional attachments, but in the last 10 years, not a single person has been able to figure out how to use these old agricultural buildings in a way that follows a business plan.” Said Duggan
At least three of the buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places, although inclusion on the register doesn't preclude structures from demolition. All three abandoned structures feature a Roman Classical design that was popular at the large exhibitions and world fairs of the late 1800s and early 1900s, according to the state's application for the National Register.
