Unauthorized buildings mushroom in Kochi
Audit department for local bodies has found that the corporation had given occupancy certificate for at least four apartment complexes, which according to the auditors were constructed flouting Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms. One among them is located on the land leased out from the government. Revenue department had given notice to the corporation demanding demolition of the building. But, the local body didn't act. Corporation authorities gave unauthorized building (UA) tag for such buildings. As per the rules, if a building is constructed without following certain norms, except grave violations like CRZ rules, the structure can be regularized by the local body after slapping three times the normal property tax.
