The Trichy Corporation earned Rs 51 lakh by way of development charge levied on regularising unapproved plots at the two-day special camp held in Trichy on Friday and Saturday. The camp was held as part of the amnesty scheme launched by the state government to regularise unapproved plots in local planning authority (LPA) layouts. The civic body has planned to conduct the special camps every weekend till the scheme expires in November. There are around 20,000 unapproved plots in the city, a majority of which falls under wards that were annexed to the city limits in 2011 near Thiruverumbur. A total of 48 plots were regularised at the two-day camp held on Thanjavur main road near Kattur. The civic body netted Rs 51 lakh by charging development fee at the rate of Rs 500 per sq.mt. The state government charges Rs 100 per square metre as regularisation charge.
