Town planning dept to prepare GIS-based development plan for Kozhikode
Regional Town and Country Planning (RTP) office here will begin socio-economic survey in the Kozhikode corporation limit. The survey will be carried out to prepare a comprehensive City Development Plan covering 75 corporation wards. Preparation of Geographic Information System (GIS) based development plan for cities found a place in the union government aided Atal Mission for rejuvenation and Urban Transformation(AMRUT) scheme is one of the major components of the scheme. The proposed development plan will be prepared to cater to the developmental requirements of corporation areas for another twenty years. The socio-economic survey will cover demographic details, household categories, population report, education status, land holdings and cropping patterns, livestock details of the village, socio-cultural history, topography, climate, natural resources, demography, urban-rural trend, employment, land use, economy and economic aspects , tourism, agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, traffic and transportation, water supply, sanitation, Energy, education, health, recreational facilities and other civic amenities, housing , environment and heritage. It will provide detailed information on existing status and developmental strategies required in each sector to ensure better amenities to people in the plan areas. The last city development plan was prepared in 2006. The officials of the regional town and country planning will hire thirty skilled persons to take up the survey. The survey will be completed before the end of the current financial year on March 31, 2019. Regional town planner will supervise the entire survey process. The survey to prepare the master plan 2035 was conducted a decade ago. The new CDP will provide updated data on all the sectors. Regional town planner K V Abdul Malik said that the GIS based CDP will be the updated versions of the master plan. `` the CDP will help the civic body to prepare new developmental proposals as it will prove latest information covering all the aspects,’’ he said adding that the survey will be commenced at the earliest.
