The DMK on Monday accused Adani Power (Adani solar power company) of forcing farmers in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu to sell their lands to it. "Reports state that the Adani group is acquiring land from farmers by coercion. The state government is supposed to take action against it, but it is acting as a real estate agent. This must be stopped. If it is not stopped, the DMK will mobilise farmers and stage protests in a big level," DMK working president M K Stalin said. Stalin was speaking to reporters after paying tributes to U Muthuramalinga Thevar on his 110th birth anniversary at Pasumpon in Ramanathapuram district. Stalin and other DMK leaders from the region, including KKSSR Ramachandran and I Periasamy, paid tributes to Thevar at his memorial. Stalin recalled Thevar's contributions. He said it was during the DMK government that a statue had been erected for Thevar in Madurai. Former President V V Giri had unveiled the statue, he said. He wanted the Tamil Nadu government to take steps to fulfill people’s demand of renaming the Madurai airport after Muthuramalinga Thevar.
