The opposition in Pune Municipal Corporation alleged misappropriations in the tendering process of the 24x7 water supply project and other schemes under the Smart City Mision.

Demanding CBI inquiry into the tendering process, senior Congress leader Arvind Shinde said, “The CBI must probe the tendering process. All tenders and tendering amounts were pre-decided by civic officials who are in cahoots with specific companies winning the tenders.”

He alleged that the bid amount for 24x7 water supply was 26% above the estimates calculated by the Pune Municipal Corporation. “The civic body will suffer a loss of Rs 450 crore because of the bid accepted by the PMC. One of the citizens has already approached the CBI over this issue,” Shinde added.

Taking cognizance of the allegations, guardian minister Girish Bapat recently held a meeting with the elected members while dropping hints that the government may resort to fresh tendering of the projects.
