SRA schemes may go vertical to build more on less space
Sky scrappers are expected to come up as Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) projects after the state government removes height restrictions and frees up Floor Space Index. The move aims at accommodating more slum dwellers in these schemes using limited available space. The urban development and housing ministry recently decided that the construction of SRA schemes in Pune will be done on the lines of Mumbai. Developers are not coming forward as building ‘free sale houses’ under the SRA is not economically viable, and many said steps are needed to make such projects feasible.
