Six people were booked at Umra police station on Saturday for alleged forgery with a 73-year-old Parsi man to encroach a plot of land worth Rs 40 crore in posh Vesu area of the city. The accused allegedly produced a forged will of the former owner to claim ownership of the land. Parvez Bhathena, who lives a retired life in Vesu, alleged in his complaint that his distant relative Siraz Gandhi, a resident of Nanpura, along with five others were involved in the fraud. Police booked the accused under various sections of Indian Penal Code for forgery and registering an affidavit with false information. Along with relatives of Bhathena, some other accused were booked. “We are likely to book some other accused if their involvement comes to our notice during investigation,” informed a police officer at Umra police station. Police probe revealed that 3,800 sqm land in Vesu was originally owned by SorabjiDorabji, uncle of Bhathena. “Since the original owner had no child, the land’s ownership passed on to other family members. But to claim its ownership, the accused prepared a forged will and submitted it in the sub-registrar’s office,” the police officer said. The complainant informed police that the accused had published a legal notice in newspapers in 2015 claiming ownership of the land as per the forged will.
