Sanjaynagar residents renew demand for homes
Members of families who were ousted from Sanjaynagar in Warasiya, but are yet to get homes promised to them held demonstrations at the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) headquarters. The dwellings of the residents were razed in 2017 and work on the site is yet to begin. VMC had taken up rehabilitation of the slums under the Pradhan MantriAavasYojana (PMAY). The civic body razed 1,841 dwellings in Sanjaynagar in July 2017. But due to a series of complications regarding land as well as technical issues in change of stakes of partners of the firm that had taken up the contract, work could not start at the site. As many as, 2,637 houses are to be constructed at the Sanjaynagar for the urban poor under a public-private partnership project under PMAY.
